A family of fishermen
What was it like to grow up in a fishing family in Esbjerg in the 1940s? And what did it actually mean to be a fisherman back then?
Drawing on familiar themes such as family, growing up, and fishing, the class meets Anna and her fishing family. Through various activities, students explore the family’s life and learn more about Esbjerg’s iconic cutter fishing, quota-based fishing, the geography of the sea, living conditions of the time, and the fishermen’s secret code language.
Emphasis is placed on learning through dialogue, collaboration, and play as the students, through object analysis and physical activities, help bring to life the picture of the life that the fishing family once lived. With the aim of establishing a connection between the life of Anna’s fishing family and the students’ own daily lives, we reflect together and discuss whether Anna’s fishing family is really so different from our own families.

How do I book the course?
The course is booked using the button below and is not confirmed until you receive a confirmation from us.
The educational program can be booked Monday through Friday at 10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m., except during school breaks.
NOTE: The program must be booked one month in advance.
We are looking forward to an exciting, phased renovation of the museum. Therefore, starting in 2027, bookings for educational programs will be subject to room availability.

Below, you'll find answers to some of the most common questions.
How should the prices be interpreted?
The program itself costs 1,490 DKK, plus admission to the museum.
Children under 18 always enter for free, and in most cases, two teachers accompany each class.
The rules vary depending on the type of institution you are from. Therefore, please refer to our ticket page, which describes which rules apply to whom.
There is no upper limit on the number of teachers who may participate in each course; however, "additional" teachers must pay the admission fee.
What about students with special needs?
We always have room for students with special needs, but we would appreciate a few more details so we can have time to prepare.

How does billing work?
After the program, you will receive an invoice for the admission fee and the program.
You can pay by debit card, bank transfer, or EAN.
What are the cancellation policies?
The course can be canceled free of charge up to 2 weeks before the start date. For cancellations made later than that, a cancellation fee equal to 65% of the total booking amount will be charged.
“Cancellation” refers to cancellation, shortening of the program, and similar significant changes to the booking.
In the event of a no-show, the full amount will be charged.
